These mythical pioneer perfumes compose a unique olfactive library, that the Maison Guerlain endeavors to preserve. An ardent aficionado of opera, Jacques Guerlain couldn’t help but fall under the spell of Puccini’s Turandot.  It is difficult to resist the charm of Liu, a woman as beautiful as she is heroic, for whom he composes this olfactory poem in which aldehydes play one of their most amazing roles. They dominate the head notes and, like cymbals, announce the entry of rose and  jasmine, which brilliantly sing a melody of sensuality. Like a musical score, the fragrance had to mellow into calm and voluptuous notes. The challenge was met, as vanilla quickly harmonises its carnal accents with those of iris and wood notes. Designed by Raymond Guerlain, its iconic “inverted heart” bottle is underscored with graceful scrolls typical of Art Nouveau.
